Vegan MoFo Day 21: Sandwich Sunday

It's dirty sandwich Sunday again. This week's special, I must admit, was based on a dare.  A long time ago I was bangin on at a workmate about how peanut butter goes with everything. My reasoning was that put PB on any sandwich and you immediately increase it's awesome factor by 100%.  She said 'even tuna & mayonnaise'.  I was like errr yeah sure. So then she challenged me to try and you know what?  It's ACE!

I used Vbites tuna style pate, plamil vegan mayonnaise and some smooth PB.  I of course added sweetcorn to the tuna mix beause tuna mayo with no sweetcorn is really sad times for me!

try it if you dare! :)

Hope you all had a great weekend.

Vegan MoFo Day 14: Sandwich Sunday

So for my second installment of Filthy Sandwich Sunday, I'm bringing you an old favourite of mine. I've lost count of the times I used to come home after a few sherbets and shakily shove a cheese sandwich in the microwave. There's no time to heat up (or clean) a toastie maker when the drunken munchies have set in!

Microwaved Cheese & Ham Sandwich

Wait wait come back.... it's good I promise!

OK it's filth but that's the point of this series, right.  So more often than not I would just use cheese but oftentimes there was also ham.  So I used a violife original slice and some vbites ham.  You need to use the crappest, filthy cheap white bread you can find, lots of of vitalite and then shove the whole lot in the microwave for about a minute, until the cheese is gooey and melted.

I am seriously impressed with how well the Violife melted. Look at it... YEAH!!

I made this yesterday for Jojo and she was very VERY suspicious of me.  She called me a savage and made me a fancy panini, but it was kind of crap. I mean it was edible but ermagerd - daiya provolone is GROSS!  But I won her and Nick round with my filthy creation.

For more info, check out Jojo's blog but here's a pic of said fancy panini!

She also made a mac n cheese toastie with Earth Balance boxed mac which was delightful and inspired!

Hope you all had a good weekend, MoFos!

Vegan MoFo Day 7 - Sandwich Sunday

Got home today from my weekend away and was glad that I had planned to make Sundays, 'Sandwich Sunday' during MoFo, as that's pretty much all I had the brain power for today.

So I'm starting slowly with my filthy sandwich recreations. You might recoil a little at first but then think, 'yeah Sal, this isn't that bad'. This was a real favourite of mine pregan and I had to do a fair bit of googling to find an alternative for one of the ingredients.

Cheese, Peanut Butter and Cheesy Wotsits

The cheese is a no-brainer, I used Violife slices my favourite cheese for sandwiches, but the wotsits proved to be trickier. The nearest thing I've ever had to Wotsits since going vegan were these filthy dairy free puffs I found in a kosher store in north London. But I haven't had a chance to go there in so long and I couldn't find these online.  A bit more googling revealed a South African crisp called Flings, which sounded like they were very similar.  So I ordered a couple of bags from Amazon, not realising how HUGE the bags are!!

Huge right haha.  Anyway I opened them and texture-wise they are spot on as to what I remember wotsits being like. However, they're not cheesy at all. Maybe I got the wrong thing. But anyway they are pretty yummy and they did a good job of standing in for the wotsits, I just added a bit of nooch to the sandwich to make up for the lack of cheesiness!

See ya tomorrow!
