I'm officially removing Boots/No7/SEVENTEEN/Botanics etc from my list of brands I'm happy to buy from. I've seen numerous comments on facebook from former employees saying they have seen correspondence referring to use of animal tested ingredients. Also today I've seen a response from Boots to someone saying outright that some of their suppliers 'may' have to test ingredients or components on animals.
They're straight up too shady and 'grey' for me to trust them and so I can no longer be confident they're cruelty free. So they're now a no-no for me.

ORIGINAL POST AND EDITS AFTER THE JUMP
EDIT: I have recently found out that Boots joined forces with Walgreens a while back and I know nothing about Walgreens or their testing policies. So I am in the process of doing some digging; I don't *think* they're cruelty free. So for those of you that avoid cruelty free brands with parent companies that test, you might want to hold fire on buying anything from the Boots' own brands. I will keep you posted.
Over the years I have asked about MANY products from these ranges, so I thought I'd compile all the answers received into one post for you, that I will update as and when I ask.
This is by no means a comprehensive list, as there will be many other products that are vegan, I just haven't got around to asking yet. If you know of anything I can add or if there's a product you want me to find out about, please just leave me a comment and I'll try and find out.
No 7
Confirmed Vegan (Oct 2016 - Boots have told me by email that all their foundations are free of animal ingredients (they don't say vegan, because they don't have certification) and that the lecithin is soy based.)
- Airbrush Away Foundation
- All foundations, as above
- Match Made Concealer
- Perfect Loose Powder
- Beautiful Skin Hydration Mask for dry and very dry skin
- High Shine Lip Crayon
- High Shine Intense Lip Crayon (synthetic beeswax is used)
- Instant Radiance Foundation
- Instant Radiance Concealer
- Stay Perfect Superlight Foundation
Confirmed NOT or Possibly Not Vegan*
- Pop & Glow Blush Sticks
- Pop & Glow Highlighter Stick
* No 7's questionable ingredient appears to be Lecithin. It's used in a few of their products and they are unable to tell me if it's derived from egg or soya, so look out for this ingredient cuz if it's in there, they cannot confirm if a product is vegan or not. UPDATE - SEE ABOVE, BOOTS HAVE SAID THEIR LECITHIN IS SOY BASED.
SEVENTEEN
Confirmed Vegan
- Cheek Stamp
- Tattoo Me Semi Permanent Liquid Eye Liner
- Phwoarr Paint Under Eye Concealer
Extracts
Confirmed Vegan
- Body Butters
Botanics
Confirmed Vegan
- All Bright Radiance Balm
- All Bright Radiance Toner
- All Bright Soothing Eye Makeup Remover
- BB Cream
Basically, Botanics have confirmed that the only animal product they use in this range is Beeswax. So as long as beeswax/cera alba isn't listed in the ingredients then it's vegan!
Confirmed NOT Vegan
- Hot Cloth Cleansing Balm

ReplyDeleteIs the eyeshadow from boots seventeen vegan?
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure. Some colours probably are, best to email boots with any specific queries.
